Italy’s most popular destinations—Rome, Venice, Florence, the Cinque Terre—are endlessly alluring, but in peak summer months they can be crowded and expensive as well. The country’s classic attractions—great art, architecture, food, wine, medieval villages and beautiful country landscapes—can be found outside its famous spots, but where are the best places to go that are affordable and fabulous too? We turned to Domenic Petrino, director of business development for  Select Italy,  a boutique travel company specializing in custom itineraries, for some answers. He recommends seven areas where the experiences will be authentic and the cost of hotels, restaurants and real estate (should you be in the market for a vacation home) less—often far less--than in Italy’s best known cities and resorts. They are among the most studied families of birds, yet every time we think we know all there is to know about their habits, they do something that flies in the face of that knowledge. What they eat is a case in point. Seeing hummingbirds flit from flower to flower, early naturalists presumed the birds were getting liquid nourishment in the form of nectar from the blooms, just as bees do. This, they thought, was all the birds ate. This reasoning, however, had its detractors. Kenya’s tourism marketing body has called on industry stakeholders to identify existing adventure and travel experiences to complement the beach product known for the coastal region. Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) CEO Betty Radier said there are many unexplored visitor experiences in the Kenya coast that if tapped would enhance visitor experience as well as lengthen their stay in the destination. “We need to enrich our visitor experience so that besides the beach and water sport activities, we also showcase other attractions in the selected sub destinations and push the adventure segment of travel that is increasingly attracting interest among the millennials,” she said in a statement released in Nairobi on Sunday evening.
